DIGITAL-LOGIC Presents EBX Computer Platform with Pentium M CPU, Serial ATA and PCI Express

Luterbach/Switzerland-based DIGITAL-LOGIC presents with the MSEBX855 an embedded computer platform in EBX format. The compact board incorporates all standard connectors, so the user does not need any adapter cables as with the PC/104 or have to make these up first. The board is based on the passively cooled CPU module SM855 with a 1.1 GHz or an actively cooled 1.8 GHz Pentium M processor with 1-Mbyte L2 on die cache. It uses the Intel 855GME chip set with 400 MHz front side bus. As main memory up to 1024 Mbyte of DDR RAM are available. Used as a controller platform, the new embedded computer platform provides all standard PC interfaces such as COM1/2/3/4 (RS232/RS485), LPT1, a floppy interface, an IrDA interface, two PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard, and 24 programmable I/Os. In addition, there are six USB 2.0 ports with data rates of up to 480 Mbit/s, an AC97 V2.3 compatible audio interface with DTS 5.1 output, and two LAN ports (100M/1Gbit). The MSEBX855 uses the "Extreme Graphic“ video controller, which is integrated in the Intel-855GME chip set, and supports DirectX 9 compatibility with a video memory of up to 64 Mbyte. The video controller has two different video outputs to control two independent monitors.
Further technical features include DVI, LVDS and SVHS ports as alternative video outputs, a hardware conexant MPEG2 encoder/decoder with three channels for multimedia/image processing and a connection for TV tuners, in addition to a PC/104 Plus (ISA/PCI) extension and a MiniPCI (Mini Peripheral Component Interconnect) slot. Specified by the PCISIG (PCI Special Interest Group), the MiniPCI slot permits to extend the board with modem, ISDN, WLAN and LAN functions, a third or even fourth VGA interface, StarFabric bus controllers, or customer-specific applications. For server applications a PCI slot has been implemented to allow the connection of SCSI, RAID or other hard disk drives, and field bus boards. An onboard SATA controller provides the connection of two SATA hard disks with RAID functions.
The EBX computer runs under all PC compatible operating systems. The integrated long-range power supply requires a voltage feed of 10V to 30V. As all power saving functions of the Intel 855 chip set are supported, the MSEBX855 only consumes a power between 10W and 30W, depending on the CPU performance. Equipped with a new Flash BIOS with dual BIOS option, the CPU board allows to boot from different media such as hard disk, floppy disk, USB, or LAN. Drivers are available for current systems. The board works at a standard temperature range of –20°C to +50°C, but with a lower clock rate also operates in the extended temperature range of –40°C to +85°C. Tested for shock and vibration, the MSEBX855 is ideally suited for military, telecommunications, medical, multimedia, security technology and image processing applications. The board is designed for a long-term availability from 5 to 10 years.
