Ruggedized embedded computer board to offer extended temperature operation, shock/vibration resistance, and low power consumption for demanding embedded systems applications
SALT LAKE CITY – June 23, 2004 - Parvus® Corporation today announced it will soon release its SpacePC® 4500 Series single board computer (SBC), a fanless CPU board that combines the new Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Intel® Celeron® processor with an Intel 815E chipset in a ruggedized PC/104-Plus format ideal for demanding aerospace, defense, transportation, and industrial applications.
This compact (3.550” x 3.775”) processor module doesn’t require active cooling and is available in both standard (0ºC to +50ºC) and extended (-40°C to +80°C) temperature rated models. It comes equipped with 128MB of soldered RAM onboard (optional up to 256MB) for exceptional shock and vibration resistance and is fully compatible with standard PC x86 and real-time operation systems (RTOS), such as Windows®, QNX®, VxWorks® and Linux®.
Affording very low power consumption (8.0W typical), the standard version of the 4500 Series CPU comes with a 400MHz Celeron processor with 256KB L2 cache. An optional 800MHz Pentium® III version is expected to also become available when ordered in minimum quantities. All models integrate a powerful set of onboard peripherals, including 4 USB ports, 1 Fast Ethernet interface (10/100Mbps), 2 serial ports (1RS-232, 1RS-232/422/485), 1 Parallel port (EPP/ECP), 1 VGA video interface, 1 AC97 sound interface, auxiliary power, keyboard and mouse connectors, as well as an UltraATA IDE controller that supports IDE solid-state Flash devices (i.e. DiskonModule®, CompactFlash® and ATA Flash Disk).
Male PC/104 (ISA) and PC/104-Plus (PCI) bus connectors are found on the bottom of the board, enabling it to stack on top of other add-on modules. The unit incorporates an embedded BIOS in a 1MB Flash re-programmable EPROM with a Datalight® ROM-DOS® kernel also preloaded to facilitate rapid customer implementation.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
The SpacePC 4500 is expected to be in stock by mid-Q3 2004. Prospective customers can place pre-orders now. Product pricing starts at $795/each in volume orders of 100+ units.
